Zhang Liming, a member of the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress, released his research on Beijing’s population at the Second Session of the 14th Beijing Municipal People's Congress, which began on Jan 16.
"The percentage of one-child families in Beijing is far beyond the national average, reaching 85 percent, higher than any other city in China. It will lead to a large number of empty-nest families in the future," Zhang said.
"Meanwhile, the capital has the most diversified and complex floating population, which adds difficulty to population control," he added.
