More than half of the cultural relics in Chinese museums suffer from corrosion,
Beijing Morning Post reported on Monday. More than 50 percent of the 14.7 million relics collected by State-owned cultural institutions are in degraded conditions, according to a State Cultural Relic Bureau investigation, but only 5 percent of the funding for museums goes toward the preservation of relics. The investigation took three years to complete and was the first of its kind in China since 1949.
