The Transport Authority of Beijing responded to the city's air pollution emergency in the past week and carried out a set of strict measures to cut pollution due to traffic fumes, according to Beijing Evening News.
The transport management department enhanced transport capacity during the evening rush hour and arranged more buses on some key routes, such as along the ring roads. No less than 50 spare buses were arranged on the roads.
Clean energy buses, including electric, hybrid electric and natural gas buses, had priority on the road. Bus drivers were asked to switch off their motors when stopping the bus. Rail transit capacity was increased by no less than 5 percent in accordance with passenger flow.
In addition, demolition projects at construction sites and the transportation of muck were banned, as was the construction of asphalt pavement, in hopes of cutting down harmful emissions.
