The city of Beijing set up a team, that provides free legal services for senior citizens aged 60 or above, on Feb 27, 2014.
The team, which has sub-groups in five districts, is made up of lawyers from the Beijing Lawyers Association, the Beijing Notary Association and the city's legal aid center. It offers the elderly free legal services, such as legal advice, rights protection and distribution of property.
Those who need legal aid can dial the consulting hotline of the Beijing Lawyers Association -- 800-810-0789. Residents older than 80 can enjoy a free door-to-door service.
The city has 2,629 million registered residents aged 60 and above, accounting for 20.3 percent of the population. As the number is still growing rapidly, more and more disputes over properties, wills, consumer rights and houses are tending to emerge.
