Beijing’s Xicheng district announced a reform plan on compulsory education on April 10, as the first step of the district’s comprehensive reform blueprint.
Xicheng will divide its administrative area into a total of 11 school districts so that students can enroll in nearby schools.
The 11 entries are Desheng, Shichahai, West Chang’an Avenue, Dashilan Chunshu Tianqiao, Xinjiekou,Jinrongjie (Financial Street), Taoranting Baizhifang, Zhanlanlu, Yuetan, Guanganmennei Niujie, and Guangwai school districts.
According to the plan, the school districts with abundant demonstration schools will help the poor ones to improve their teaching by curricular sharing, exchanges of faculty and school mergers, so as to balance the allocation of educational resources in Xicheng district.
The district will also invest 2.28 billion yuan ($367.74 million) to further enhance teaching facilities, including four new schools and more than 70 decoration projects.
Thanks to a cooperation mechanism between the local Youth Culture Palace and schools, students will have access to various training courses on art, science and sports without going to training organizations after school.
In addition, the district encourages the prestigious universities and middle schools with high reputations to open affiliated primary schools.
