Seven people in Beijing were sentenced to prison on Thursday over copyright infringement, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Friday. Between January 2009 and April 2013, the seven put movies, TV shows and music on a website for download and made discs to sell online without the permission of the copyright holders. The principal perpetrator, Zhou Zhiquan, was sentenced to five years and fined 1 million yuan ($160,500). Six other defendants were sentenced to between one and three years in jail.
