Beijing high-tech zone a star at ongoing trade fair
Zhongguancun, the first national independent innovative demonstration zone in China, is again in the limelight at the ongoing Beijing Fair for Trade in Services.
Its display highlights the achievements and future trends of the modern services that today generate nearly two-thirds of the zone's revenue.
Its booth offers interactive experience areas and depicts the livelihood, healthcare, communications and energy reduction efforts in the area.
A digital content trade conference on May 29 sponsored by the administrative committee of Zhongguancun provided online and offline matchmaking activities for investors and exhibitors.
It offered 25 closed-door negotiation rooms to ensure confidentiality in cutting-edge technologies and negotiation details.
On May 31, a trade seminar will open to connect Zhongguancun with ASEAN economies.
Diplomats and business leaders from ASEAN have been invited to join the event, when Zhongguancun will introduce its preferential policies and listen to feedback from delegates.
On a fast track
In June 2011, government authorities including the Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Science and Technology approved Zhongguancun as a key modern service sector hub on trial basis.
The central government has provided more than 500 million yuan ($81 million) each year to support the sector's growth.
Support for the past three years has focused on modern and technological services, e-commerce, logistics and energy saving industries.
The convergence between high-tech and modern services is represented by firms such as JD.com, Xiaomi and 58.com, which have revolutionized the traditional service industry with cutting-edge technologies and become the economic pillar of the sector in the zone.
Last year, revenue from modern services hit 2 trillion yuan, up 53 percent compared with 2011.
