"Splendor of Venice: From the Renaissance to the Golden Age" opened to the public for free at the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture in Beijing on Aug 8. The international art exhibition will last until Sept 21.
A total of 100 relics from five museums including the Museo Correr, Museo Ca'Rezzonico, Museo del Vetro, Museo Moccenico and Museo Casa Goldoni in Venice, one of Italy's most noteworthy cultural cities, are on display. The artifacts demonstrate the city's economic, artistic and cultural achievements from the Renaissance to the late 18th century.
Visitors can experience the rich treasures of Venice through its artwork including 15th-century aristocratic medals; 16th-centrury oil paintings, painted pottery, bronze ware and sculptures; and 18th-century glass ware and silk embroidery.
Surprisingly enough, visitors can also see some art featuring Chinese styles. A white Murano glass vase overlaid with blue and gold decorations, for example, is strikingly similar to Chinese blue-and-white porcelain vases.
The exhibition combines history and art to give visitors a deeper understanding of Italian civilization.
