The Winter Olympic Games are a major international sporting event that occurs once every four years, featuring sports practiced on snow and ice. The 2022 Winter Olympics is an important international event organized in a city selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). After Oslo withdrew its bid on October 1, 2014, Beijing and Almaty are the two remaining candidate cities.
Beijing 2022 is a joint bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics by Beijing with Zhangjiakou and the Chinese Olympic Committee. Beijing, a city that has successfully hosted the Summer Olympics, has good experience in the efficient usage of its Olympic legacy. The successful completion of a Summer Olympics is Beijing's biggest advantage. The city is now making good use of its Olympic legacy, avoiding the need for a large number of new stadiums.
The host city will be elected on 31 July 2015, at the 128th IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur.
