On Dec 6, the 14th China Chongli International Ski Festival opened at Genting Resort Secret Garden. The International Ski Federation Alpine Ski Race and the Far East Cup also began on the same day.
In Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, people have become more and more enthusiastic about winter sports in recent years. Chongli has a long snow season and high-quality snow. It has served as an important venue for various winter sports events, attracting a large number of winter sports lovers.
According to Zhao Yinggang, deputy secretary-general of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee, the bid committee has created a blueprint for the development of winter sports from 2014 to 2022 to promote the bid for the 2022 winter games. The plan includes a series of snow and ice activities organized by the committee and the General Administration of Sport, one of which is the Chongli Ski Festival.
So far, several venues in Beijing and the ski jumping, biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding and Nordic combined venues in Chongli have been approved as qualified by all seven athletic federations: the International Skating Union, the World Curling Federation, the International Ice Hockey Federation, the International Ski Federation, the International Biathlon Union, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation and the International Luge Federation.
