Tianjin People's Art Theatre will bring its latest play Keep the Red Flag Flying to the capital from March 19 to 22. Written by Liang Bin (1914-1996), the play tells the story of how farmers fought feudal oppression in North China from the end of Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to around the 1930, when the communist revolution broke out in China. The play was warmly received by older audiences when it was performed in Tianjin, Shaanxi, Henan and Hebei provinces last year, because "the original novel was popular among people of that age and the play prompted old memories", says director Zhong Hai. Actor Wu Jing'an performs the lead roles of farmer Zhu Laogong and then his son Zhu Laozhong. He played the same roles in a TV series adapted from the same story in 2003. The TV series was popular and Wu was praised for his performance.
