The city of Beijing will add 800 barrier-free taxis in 2015 and replace 70 old taxis, the municipal transport authority said on Tuesday.
The number of Beijing taxis reached 66,000 in 2003. The new additions will mark the first increase in 12 years.
The first barrier-free taxi team, with 70 cars, was launched in May 2008 to offer special cab services to the disabled. Bookings can be made by telephone two hours in advance.
