The 5th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) opened on April 16. As one of the festival's diamond business partners, StarTimes Group will give a shade of African color to this film event.
Headquartered in Beijing, StarTimes is the second biggest TV operator in Africa. It is the only private enterprise with credentials to contract foreign projects in China's Radio & TV industry.
StarTimes will exhibit its digital TV operation, dubbing and production to the audience at the film festival's marketing events. Pang Xinxing, president of StarTimes, was present on the red carpet with Zhang Chaoyang, founder and CEO of Sohu.
Founded in 1988, StarTimes has registered branches in 26 African countries, and operates digital TV in 14 of them, with 5 million users.
StarTimes began to translate and dub Chinese films and television shows into African languages in 2012, which created a channel to spread Chinese culture in Africa.
Up to the end of 2014, StarTimes has translated and dubbed over 60 Chinese television series, movies and documentaries.
Moreover, a new headquarters with a complete industrial chain for film and television production will be established in Kenya next year.
