A bus driver in Beijing slammed the brakes to ensure the passengers’ safety before he died of a sudden heart attack yesterday morning.
Yang Yong, the deceased driver, was driving the No 941 Bus heading toward Beijing West Railway Station, when he suddenly suffered a heart attack. He slammed the brakes to stop the bus at an intersection, and then fainted.
A passenger surnamed Kong said he felt nothing wrong until the bus shocked in starting when the lights turned green. All passengers stood up, and a woman shouted “the driver is sick, help him quickly”, Kong said. He ran to the front and found the driver pale and sweating.
“The bus slid a short distance before it stopped under a street lamp,” Kong said, “it would be unimaginable if the driver didn’t brake.”
The passengers took the driver to the sidewalk and did CPR for half an hour until doctors from a hospital nearby came, only to find him already dead.
Yang was later sent to the nearby 301 hospital, and announced dead at 10:50 am. He was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction.
The 40-year-old bus driver has clocked up 370,000 kilometers in his 12-year-long driving career.
