The Ditan Temple Culture fair is a highlight of the Berlin Asia-Pacific Weeks held in Berlin. The Beijing-themed cultural event gets a considerable amount of attention and participation from the German people.
The event consists of displays of Beijing's intangible cultural heritage and Beijing food. Its sponsors are the Beijing Municipal Government and the Dongcheng district government.
The Beijing cultural heritage display, located at Berlin's Marzahn Park on May 21, showed traditional Chinese art forms including carved lacquerware, painted snuff bottles, filigree, and silk flowers.
A visitor at the display recalled his first visit to Beijing back in 1975, "I saw hutongs and dough figurines for the first time, and I tasted Chinese tea, which impressed me greatly. I went to Beijing again with my wife in 2013 and we saw Beijing's dramatic changes. We were very excited to see that those interesting things were still there." He added that "Seeing the display now, I feel like I am in Beijing again."
Bianyifang, a famous Chinese restaurant, brought its chefs and traditional Beijing food to the event. On May 24 they treated guests at Berlin's Ocean Hotel to their cuisine.
The Ditan Temple Culture fair was previously held in Bangkok and Taipei.
