The Chinese Peking Opera, The Jewelry Pouch, and actress Zhang Huoding were featured at the closing ceremony of the 15th Meet in Beijing Arts Festival on Thursday.
Zhang, who plays the main character, is the master of the Cheng School, which is one of the four famous schools for dan (female) roles in Peking Opera. Zhang is also the most popular Peking Opera actress in the modern world. She is proficient at expressing emotions and thoughts by integrating acting, singing, the spoken word and acrobatics in opera.
Zhang will make her debut at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City in September. She will perform in two shows, The Jewelry Pouch and The Legend of White Snake.
