67,816 senior students in Beijing’s high schools are sitting for Gaokao, the college entrance exam, from June 7 to 8. The number of students taking the exam shrank more than 2,000 from last year, when more than 80 percent of them will be able to enter the colleges. Students can apply for colleges based on their performance in the exam this year, rather than before the college entrance exam as before.
The once-in-a-lifetime college entrance exam is considered a most important watershed in life for most Chinese students, determining their future education and career.
