Born in Russia, having lived in Europe, and now feeling at home in Beijing, Maria Nauen made it her goal to unite the worlds of both professional and amateur musicians together to create an orchestra unique not only to Beijing, but also to all of China. We sat with Maria to talk about how she started the Beijing International Chamber Orchestra, what the orchestra focuses on today, and how, despite cultural differences, the world of music can unite people together. Maria Nauen, from Russia, has been in China for almost nine years. This is her story.
