Eighteen-year-old Wang Yilun had a special Chinese ceremony to mark his adulthood, on Aug 16, at the Confucius Temple and Imperial College Museum in Beijing.
The coming-of-age ceremony was held by the museum's Chinese Studies School, consisting of several rituals, including kneeling to parents and reading from The Classic of Filial Piety.
Wang was admitted by Soochow University after this year's college entrance exam, and is expected to be grateful to parents, respect teachers, and to love his homeland according to the Chinese traditional ceremony.
This is the first time that the school held such a ceremony in over ten years. The goal is to enable Wang to learn from the essence of Chinese traditional culture and be a good person.
The school usually organizes activities like reading ancient classics and traditional rituals. It also provides Chinese classes for both teenagers and adults.
The Confucius Temple in Beijing is the second largest temple constructed for Confucius, the greatest thinker and educationalist in ancient China.
The Imperial College was once the highest administrative organ in charge of education and national learning institutions in ancient China.
