A grand prize of a 10-day trip to Europe awaits the winner of contest open to students in China that tests their knowledge of Central and Eastern European countries.
The contest organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University continues until Oct 21. It was officially launched in Beijing on Saturday and is open to high school, undergraduate and graduate school students nationwide.
Participants take an online writing test that features 50 wide-ranging questions on the history, culture and society of the 16 countries, including Poland, Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary.
Han Zhen, Party Chief at the university, said the countries included in the contest have a long history of cooperating with China, but the long distance and differences in language and culture create difficulties in expanding cooperation and partnerships on both sides.
Organizers hope the contest will deepen people's understanding and further promote China's "Belt and Road" initiatives, said Zhao Gang, dean of the university's School of European Languages and Cultures.
The grand prize is to be awarded to the student with the highest score in the contest, which also includes an interview.
