Eastern China's Anhui province brought seven cities to promote local tourism in Beijing on October 31.
Anhui is home to the world-famous Huangshan Mountain, ancient Xidi and Hongcun villages, and Jiuhua Mountain, one of the four most famous mountains in Buddhism, says an official from the provincial tourism bureau.
An international demonstration zone consisting of Huangshan, Chizhou, Xuancheng, Ma'anshan, Wuhu, Tongling and Anqing were approved by the State Council last February for their superb environmental conditions.
Improved transportation also played a role in attracting visitors. High-speed rails shortened travel time between Beijing and Anhui to less than four hours.
The province's first direct flight to Europe was also launched last March. It connects Hefei to Frankfurt, Germany.
A total of 1.84 million visitors from outside the mainland made trips to Anhui in the first six months of this year, up 9.8 percent from last year. The number of mainlanders hit 200 million, up 14.3 percent, according to the tourism bureau.
Total tourism income surged 17.5 percent to 170 billion yuan ($26.9 billion) over the same period.
The local government is striving to make tourism a pillar industry by 2020.
