Wang Ning, deputy mayor of Beijing, recently led an inspection team to examine local service facilities, including cultural services and social construction and endowment homes in Fengtai district and Shijingshan district. Elder-care service was the focus of the inspection.
According to the latest released official data, Beijing has confirmed 83 elder-care center projects, 37 of which are already under way, and two of which are operational. Investment amounted to 160 million yuan. The data also shows that 157 community pension service station projects have been identified. Fifty are now in use and four more are nearing completion. Financing had amounted to 45 million yuan by early September.
Among the most important projects has been the distribution of aged-care and disabled cards covering Fengtai and Mentougou districts. That distribution has now been completed.
