Xi calls for implementing China-Cambodia Belt and Road plans
President Xi Jinping called for joint efforts with Cambodia to implement cooperative plans to build the Belt and Road when he talked with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday.
The two countries should focus on the major projects of production capacity and investment cooperation, Xi told Hun Sen at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
The Cambodian prime minister is on a five-day visit to China. He attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held Sunday to Monday.
Xi welcomed Hun Sen's visit and participation in the forum. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Cambodia, Xi said, adding that China would like to deepen bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation to benefit the people of both sides.
Xi pointed out that the two sides should enhance cooperation in areas such as law enforcement, security, anti-terrorism, fighting internet criminals and hunting for fugitives overseas. The bilateral exchanges on tourism, culture, education and youth should be expanded, he said.
China supports Cambodia to play a bigger role in global and regional affairs, Xi said.
Hun Sen said that Cambodia firmly sticks to the friendly policy toward China, which was set by the late Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk.
He expressed gratitude for China's support and help for his country, saying that Cambodia would like to make joint efforts with China to strengthen traditional friendship.
The Cambodian prime minister called for mutual understanding and support toward issues related to each others' development and major concerns.
The two countries should expand practical cooperation in such areas and economy and trade, development, poverty reduction, health, security and fighting cross-border criminals, he said.
