China's railways saw a rapid growth in passenger and freight transport in the first quarter of 2006, with the total passenger flow hitting 316 million, 23 million more than the same period last year. The Ministry of Railways on Friday said that more than 3 million passengers traveled by rail daily in China over the past three months.

Southwest China's Yunnan Province is to invest more than 20 billion yuan (US$2.5 billion) in airport construction projects in the next five years. According to the province's blueprint for the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), the projects will further improve transportation ability of Yunnan and boom local economic growth in the sectors of foreign trade and tourism.
