China Mobile is expected to make a US$4 billion cash bid for shares in
NASDAQ-listed Millicom International Cellular, the South China Morning Post said
yesterday. But a spokesman for China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd, the world's top
cellular carrier by subscribers, denied last week that either the company or its
parent had bid for Millicom after the Financial Times reported a similar plan.

China had 5.42 million more mobile phone users each month for the past
quarter and the total number of mobile phone users climbed to 409 million by the
end of March, the Ministry of Information Industry said yesterday. (Shanghai
