The weeklong Labor Day holiday spurred another sales boom at Shanghai's retailers, which staged various promotional events to attract consumers.

Shanghai New World Department Store on Nanjing Road topped the city's shopping destinations by recording the highest single store sales of 72 million yuan (US$8.99 million) from May 1 to May 7, the Shanghai Economic Commission said yesterday.

The record sales were up 38 percent from the same period last year, according to New World.
