Shanghai's No. 2 mobile phone carrier has joined the city's dominant wireless telecom in cutting service fees for long-term use by more than 70 percent, bringing them closer to fixed-line charges.

Shanghai Unicom said yesterday it will launch a fee package that charges as little as 0.1 yuan (1 US cent) a minute starting next Tuesday.

Under the new plan, Shanghai Unicom customers can subscribe to a one-year package that costs 50 yuan for 500 minutes a month and 0.11 yuan for every extra minute.
