Currently the Chinese auto market is a buyer's market. Individuals have now become the majority of vehicle purchasers and auto consumption has shifted from Beijing, Guangzhou and other big cities to medium- and small-sized cities.

The China Auto News Market Information Consulting Center and Beijing Oriental Idea Consulting Co Ltd carried out studies in 2004 and 2005 on the auto market in the Pearl River Delta region. There were altogether 1,263 participants in the survey. The research results were published on May 15.

The research results show that the majority of respondents are satisfied with the vehicles they have purchased. (See Fig. 1)

At present most domestic sedans have some minor problems. Research results show though Chinese automakers have improved technology, there are still problems in the overall production process. Some 22 percent of those interviewed in 2005 reported circuit faults in their vehicles, up from 15 percent in 2004. (See Fig. 2)
