Chemical: JVs forced to close for polluting (China Daily) Updated: 2006-07-03 16:26 Three large chemical fibre joint ventures (JV)
have been ordered by local authorities to shut down their workshops by September
for failing to meet China's environmental protection standards last
week.
The companies, each having an investment of over US$10 million,
were closed down by Jiaonan municipal government of East China's Shandong
Province. They are Qingdao Erhe Fibre Company Limited, Qingdao Cotton Fibre
Company Limited and Qingdao Dahong Company.
Environmental protection
authorities said the companies, which were established in the 1990s, have been
found to continuously discharge contaminated liquid waste into the Yellow Sea.
