US-based PPG, a Fortune 500 company, is striving to cement its place in China
by offering cutting-edge environmental protection technologies.
Howard L.
Combs, director of Business Development for PPG, said: "We have a strategic
market target of becoming one of the top five coating companies in China and
maintaining our global position as the number two or three."
PPG's
environmental protection coatings and glass have been applied to many of China's
important landmark buildings.
The first and second phase of the Shanghai
Pudong Airport, Shanghai Jinmao Building and the Shanghai World Financial Centre
are all covered with PPG's coating products.
And people may not know that
even the coatings on the Tiananmen Gate Tower, as well as the pole for the
national flag in Tiananmen Square are from PPG.
"PPG places strong
emphasis on environmental protection technologies, which is our winning card,"
said Combs.
He explained the reason behind PPG's fast development in
China is that the company has expanded its presence in tune with China's drive
to build an energy efficient and environmentally-friendly society.
And
with the Chinese people's growing awareness of the importance of using "greener"
materials to decorate their homes.
"We have a good outlook on the market
of supporting the nation's green movement," said Combs.
He explained
several technologies that are in use in China as well as on landmark buildings
around the world.
For example, some technologies only recently licensed
in China include a special energy-saving glass.
