Insurance companies in China collected 82 billion yuan in vehicle insurance premiums in 2005. The figure may rise up to 240 billion yuan with an annual increase of 20 to 25 percent, said Richard Huang, associate principal in McKinsey's Beijing office. China's rising economy will continually inrease the number of private car owners in the country. Compulsory vehicle liability insurance policy, which became effective July 1, gurantees the utmost insurance rate. Moreover, the growth in medical expenses and auto maintainence fees and the launch of new insurance plans will also lead to a jump in vehicle insurance premiums, Huang said.
