A series of trade activities under the umbrella of the Asia Media Festival 2006 kicks into high gear with the successful Media Financing Forum (MFF) today in Singapore.

This year, a total of 38 projects have been submitted, with 34 short listed for potential funding, signifying a 40 percent increase in the number of projects submitted for consideration from last year.

The trade activities of the Asia Media Festival (AMF), taking place from November 28 to December 1, 2006, are designed to encompass the whole value chain of the media business, from media financing, production, to distribution. Overall, more than 600,000 local and international public visitors, and trade delegates from the television, broadcasting, film, animation, advertising and digital media industries are expected to attend the public and trade events.

Many trade delegates across the world view China as a booming media market. Xavier Chevreau from TV France International said: "Sales of French programs to China were particularly high last year." In 2005, the volume was 3.4 million euros compared with 1.6 million euros in 2004.

Transactions this year are expected to exceed the record US$33 million closed in 2005.

"The Asia Media Festival brings together the most creative minds in media with the acute business acumen of investors", said Dr. Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer of Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore, the organization that hosted the annual festival.
