Xiamen to invest in port project

Xiamen City, East China's Fujian Province, plans to invest at least 2.5 billion yuan (US$321.28 million) in six port projects this year, in a bid to enhance port capacity and strengthen its hub position.

The six projects include Haicang Port No 11-13 berths; the second-phase quay wall project of Songyu Port, the land reclamation project of Haicang Port No 20-22 berths; and the turning basin's dredging project of Haicang Port No 14-19 berths. In addition, Xiamen will also continue construction work on eight other port projects this year.

During the 11th Five-Year Program period (2006-2010), besides the construction on the 100,000-ton (or above) container and the bulk cargo berths in Songyu and Haicang ports, Xiamen is scheduled to speed up expansion on the 100,000-ton shipping channels in Xiamen Bay, as well as the Dongdu and Haicang shipping channels.
