Index continues rising, 02/07

China's main stock index climbed 1.51 percent higher yesterday, after Tuesday's rebound convinced some that the downward trend of the past week might be over.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2716.175. Turnover in Shanghai A shares grew to 77.3 billion yuan (US$9.97 billion) from Tuesday's 67.8 billion yuan.

A total of 594 companies on Shanghai A-share market made gains, while 156 saw losses.
