Cuba-China trade doubles in 2006

The trade volume between Cuba and China in 2006 saw a twofold increase from the previous year and reached 1.8 billion dollars, Cuban newspaper Opciones quoted Chinese Ambassador Zhao Rongxian as saying on Tuesday.

"Growth has been really successful," Zhao told the newspaper, adding, "There are many Chinese products in Cuba and vice versa."

He said that China has imported nickel, sugar, medicine and biotechnology products from Cuba, and the two sides has experienced excellent relations, paving the way for a "splendid" future.

China has become the world's fourth largest economy, while Cuba's economy grew 12.5 percent in 2006, the fastest in the Latin America.

At present, more than 10,000 Chinese visitors travel to Cuba each year.The ambassador said he would work to boost the tourism links between the two sides to a higher level.
