China Telecom reports less fixed-line applicants

China Telecom Corp, the nation's largest fixed-line phone company, today said subscriber growth slowed last month from January as users switched to wireless services.

The telephone operator gained 210,000 users last month, compared with 250,000 in January, according to a statement on the company's Website today. China Telecom's total subscribers rose to 223.5 million as of the end of last month, the Beijing-based phone carrier said.

China Telecom said it added 710,000 broadband users in February, compared with 760,000 the previous month, bringing its total to 29.8 million.

China Unicom Ltd, the smaller of the country's two mobile-phone operators, said yesterday it added 1.46 million subscribers in February, compared with 1.38 million in January.
