BorgWarner to set up R&D center in Shanghai

US-based automotive component manufacturer BorgWarner Inc plans to build a research and development (R&D) center in Shanghai and an applied engineering building in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang Province.

The R&D center will cooperate with Shanghai Jiaotong University and the University of Michigan, and design products for the Chinese market.

BorgWarner expects its sales in China to account for 10 percent of its global sales in six to eight years, said company chief executive officer Timothy Manganello.
