Automakers motoring ahead in Russia

Five major Chinese automakers, First Automotive Works Corp (FAW), Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd, Chery Automobile Co Ltd, Yutong Group and King Long United Automotive Industry (Suzhou) Co Ltd, signed a slew of deals with Russia at the recent Chinese national exhibition in Russia.

FAW agreed to mass produce commercial vehicles and passenger cars in China that will be delivered to three Russian partners.

In addition, FAW sealed a deal with a Russian plant to produce medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Russia.

Sources from the Changchun-based Chinese automaker said the company will sell 10,000 medium- and heavy-duty trucks, mini vehicles and sedans in the Russian market this year. In the next two to three years, Russia is expected to become FAW's largest regional exporting market for autos and auto parts.
