China's net overseas investments rose 57 percent to $662.1 billion last year as securities investment doubled, according to data released by the Beijing-based State Administration of Foreign Exchange on its Web site yesterday.
Total external financial assets rose by a third to $1.62 trillion by the end of 2006 from a year ago, and total external financial liabilities gained 21 percent to $964.5 billion, the agency said.
International investment in securities, including in both equities and debts, surged to $229.2 billion as of the end of 2006 from $116.7 billion a year ago, it said in the statement.
Foreign direct investmentgained to $82.4 billion as of the end of 2006 from $64.5 a year ago, it said.
