Nearly 4,500 Chinese and foreign companies have settled down in the 4-square kilometer central business district (CBD) of Beijing, according to government statistics.

Sixty percent of businesses in the district, which is inside Beijing's Chaoyang District, are in the service sector, said head of Chaoyang District government Cheng Lianyuan.

Taxes from businesses in the CBD amounted to 8.61 billion yuan (US$1.13 billion) in the first five months of this year, up 13.7 percent over the same period last year.
