China Mobile Ltd, the world's biggest wireless carrier by users, added a record number of subscribers in June for a ninth consecutive month as the company attracted customers from fixed-line competitors with lower prices.

The carrier added 5.53 million users in June, raising the total number of subscribers to 332.4 million, Beijing-based China Mobile said on its Web site today. China Unicom Ltd, the country's second-largest mobile-phone company, said yesterday it signed up 1.54 million customers in June, fewer than in May.

China Telecom Corp, the nation's biggest fixed-line carrier, added 210,000 telephone users in June, 77 percent fewer than a year earlier, the company said in a separate statement on its Web site today.

The company, also based in Beijing, added 570,000 broadband users last month, more than the 510,000 added in May, increasing its total number of high-speed Internet subscribers to 32.19 million, the statement said.
