Trasnport: Airline earnings up during holiday

Chinese airline revenues hit 2.94 billion yuan over the weeklong National Day holiday, up 19.9 percent from the same period last year, according to the National Tourism Administration and National Bureau of Statistics.

Meanwhile, the country's railways earned 1.48 billion yuan in revenue from passenger transportation, a 12.5-percent increase.

The 39 major tourism cities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Wuxi, Shanghai, Sanya and Chengdu, hosted 59.53 million tourists, up 16.1 percent from the same period last year, during the holiday.

Beijing received 5.94 million visitors in the past week, 3.5 percent up from last year, reaping a total of 4.13 billion yuan in tourism revenue, according to the local tourism office.

Shanghai received 4.62 million visitors, 15.2 percent up from the same period last year.
