Macao has recorded 590,000 visitor arrivals during the Chinese mainland "Golden Week" holiday which lasted from October 1 to 7, seeing a year-on-year rise of 19 percent, according to an official press release issued Tuesday.

The release issued by the Information Bureau said tourists from the mainland represented 66 percent of the total visitor arrivals, seeing a year-on-year increase of 31.56 percent.

The hotel occupancy rate during the period, however, saw a slight year-on-year rise of merely one percent, the figures showed.

Analysts contributed the flat hotel occupancy rate to high room charges and low service levels.
