The trade in agricultural products between Chinese mainland and Taiwan Province rose by 40.3 percent year on year to $800 million in 2007, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Total trade volume between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan reached $124.48 billion last year, up 15.4 percent.

Yang Yi, spokesman with the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the Chinese mainland planned to import high-quality fruit from Taiwan during the Beijing Olympics.

Detailed plans were under discussion between a Beijing fruit distributor and Taiwan farming organizations and enterprises, he said.

Taiwan is the Chinese mainland's seventh largest trade partner, ninth largest export market and fifth largest import market.
