China Mobile, the world's top mobile phone operator, expects the country's lower roaming fees to hurt the company's revenues, but is looking to boost revenues from non-voice services, its chief executive said yesterday.

China Mobile is also negotiating with international operators to lower voice and data roaming fees when its customers travel overseas, Wang Jianzhou said. "We have a lot of customers, which make up a large part of China's total number of mobile phone users, so we take this issue very seriously," he said. China Mobile's total fees, including voice and roaming fees, in 2007 were 14.4 percent lower than the previous year, Wang said, adding that total fees had fallen more than 62 percent in the five years up to and including 2007.
