Technical staff closely examine and repair the Tongling-Jiujiang railway's Jiangxi section on March 25, 2008, making final preparations for the railway's official operation. The Tongling-Jiujiang railway construction project is one of the State's key projects.

The Tongling-Jiujiang railway is a grade-one trunk railway with long continuous welded tracks through railway stations. Construction on the project began in August 2005.

The railway starts at the Shizishan station on the Wuhu-Tongling railway in Anhui province and ends at Jiujiang in Jiangxi province.

It will eventually run 250.94 kilometers in total, with 88.41 kilometers in Jiangxi province. Trains will travel at a maximum speed of 140 kilometers per hour after the railway's operation. The railway has one no speed-limited section.

The Tongling-Jiujiang railway will be incorporated into the national railway system in April, according to Nanchang Railway Bureau's request to the Ministry of Railways.
