Nigeria sees China as critical development partner

Nigerian vice president Goodluck Jonathan said on Tuesday that Nigeria will continue to regard China as a critical partner in the development of the nation's infrastructure.

The vice president made the remarks when he received a Chinese trade delegation led by the China's Vice Minister of Commerce, Chen Jian, in his office in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.

The vice president noted with delight the existing cordial, trade and economic relations between Nigeria and China, saying that Nigeria has found China a worthy partner.

The vice president expressed the hope that the visit of the Chinese trade delegation will further strengthen and promote the Nigeria-China economic and commercial co-operation.

He urged members of the delegation to use the opportunity of their visit to explore other ways of investing in Nigeria, as the country "has opened its doors for foreign investments".

He also expressed optimism that the delegation's discussions with Nigerian officials will yield fruitful results.

Jonathan, who acknowledged the high level of technological advancement of China, hailed China's for successfully hosting the recently concluded Beijing Olympic Games.

Chen Jian, leader of the delegation, told the vice president that they are in Nigeria to further promote the Nigeria-China bilateral relations.

He described Nigeria as China's biggest trading partner in Africa and expressed the hope that the visit would further boost the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Abuja on September 21 to start a four-day visit to the country.
