China's quality supervisor said it is to intensify checks on some food imported from Europe after the exposure of quality problems.

These products included brandy from Italy, seasoning sauce from Great Britain, dairy products from Spain, chocolate component-containing food from Belgium, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said on its website on Monday.

All the problematic products have been destroyed or returned without entering domestic market, it said.

The AQSIQ has urged local entry-exit inspection and quarantine inspectors to carry out stricter quality check on these products during the coming 90 days, starting from Dec 6.

It has informed the European side about relevant details in line with an existing food safety cooperation mechanism and voiced intent to conduct further exchanges and cooperation on the food safety issue.

The administration would decide whether it would take a further move, depending on the results of the inspection, it said.
