Cross-Straits trade down 35% in first seven months

Trade volume between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan dropped 35.1 percent year-on-year during the first seven months of 2009, according to the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).

Trade volume stood at $52.53 billion during the January-July period, according to statistics of the MOC's Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs.

In the first seven months, the Chinese mainland approved 1,335 projects funded by businessmen from Taiwan, representing a decrease of 3.3 percent year-on-year.

The mainland received $1 billion of direct investment from Taiwan in the first seven months, down 14.9 percent year-on-year.
