Samsung Electronics Co, South Korea's largest electronics, has been expanding its shares in China's display and TV market, market reports said Thursday.

According to the global market researcher, GfK, Samsung's liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs took up 11 percent of the Chinese market in July, increasing 3.3 percentage points semiannually.

The company was ranked third place, climbing three steps, following Chinese TV maker Hisense Electric Co with 13.3 percent and Skyworth Digital Holdings Co with 11.8 percent.

In terms of LCD panel sales, Samsung was placed second, selling 654,000 TV units in July.

Market analysts said Samsung's market share expansion was mainly due to its aggressive marketing activities, boosted by the Chinese government's campaign encouraging domestic consumption of electronic devices.

South Korean companies have been continuously tapping the Chinese market, with LG Display Co, the world's second-largest flat panel maker, announced last month to build its first LCD plant in China.

Samsung Electronics is also mulling over LCD plant construction in China, the company said.
